Diversity
We value every child as a unique individual who brings their own strengths, identity and experiences to our centre. Educators recognise diversity as a valuable resource — actively listening to each child to understand what matters to them, then responding through inclusive practices and equitable opportunities. We advocate for all children to receive equal opportunities and our educators regularly participate in cultural safety training. We acknowledge and are committed to teaching the histories and cultures of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, who have a unique and enduring relationship to the lands now known as Australia. We take active steps to ensure every child feels safe, included and supported, strengthened through ongoing reflection and collaboration with families and community services.
Relationships
Hatchlings strives to provide the highest standard of care and education in a secure, trusting environment where children feel a deep sense of belonging. We build consistent, warm and responsive relationships that support children's wellbeing, learning and confidence — and we honour each child's relationships with their family and community. We prioritise strong partnerships with families to extend home experiences, respect family beliefs and respond to individual needs. We build a child safe culture by maintaining professional boundaries, protecting children's privacy and dignity, and empowering children to express their feelings and concerns. We promote a speak-up culture for children, families and educators, and we respond to concerns promptly, transparently and in line with our child safety obligations.
Curriculum
We are guided by the Early Years Learning Framework and My Time, Our Place in delivering programs that support children's holistic development — socially, cognitively, emotionally, physically and morally. Our curriculum is play-based, with children leading through their evolving interests and capabilities. We view children as capable, active contributors in their own learning. Intentional teaching is informed by each child's strengths, voice and identity, and strengthened through meaningful engagement with families and community. We support children to explore, research and investigate the world around them — fostering curiosity and a positive disposition towards lifelong learning. We intentionally teach and model protective behaviours in age-appropriate ways, supporting body autonomy, respectful relationships, consent and help-seeking.
Environment
Our environment evolves with children's interests, ideas, play and developmental capabilities. We create an extension of the child's home — a place where children feel safe, secure and comfortable. Environments promote multi-age play and experiences that support peer interactions and collaboration. Indoor and outdoor spaces encourage connection with the natural world, fostering a sense of responsibility for a sustainable future. Our environments and routines support active supervision, safe transitions and clear visibility across spaces. We identify risks, reduce hazards and strengthen safety through ongoing improvement. Everyone who enters our centre is expected to uphold our child safe culture, and children are protected through safe supervision, clear boundaries and appropriate screening and sign-in processes.
Professional Development
High standards are held of all educators at Hatchlings. Educators are expected to embody integrity, compassion, respect and a commitment to high quality service delivery. We are committed to continuous improvement, and our practice is informed by critical reflection that is structured, evidence-based and focused on improving outcomes for children. We provide continuous professional learning to strengthen pedagogy, improve consistency and maintain contemporary child safe practices. Educators understand their responsibilities for a child safe environment and respond to concerns with urgency, professionalism and care. We promote a culture where concerns are raised early, acted on promptly and used to strengthen systems and practice.
Advocacy & Leadership
We uphold the principles outlined in the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child. We advocate for children's right to play — providing the time, space and freedom to play, take safe risks and navigate everyday life in supported ways. Our team encourages and supports all children to participate fully in our program. We have zero tolerance for harm and act immediately on any concern to protect children. We are especially vigilant in safeguarding children who may be more vulnerable to harm, and we work with families and relevant services to ensure safety and inclusion. We strengthen quality through meaningful engagement with families and the community, and by sharing what we do to inspire innovation and advocate for a better future for all children.
